I can't wait to hear what you think about the OCR ruling, that will essentially eliminate underwriting because it is now deemed to be discriminatory as well as rating women lower than men, and those under 65 who have Medicare due to certain ailments or disabilities. This is yet another reason why premiums are becoming unbearable. Not to mention the direction Part D is headed!

At my last wellness exam (still on an employer insurance plan), I was asked a series of questions for older adults. One of them focused on social isolation. Scientific literature found that social isolation causes cognitive decline, and increases the risk of dementia up to 50%. The CDC reports that social isolation is "associated with a 29% increased risk of heart disease and a 32% increased risk of stroke." Increasing costs for medical care. And, loneliness from social isolation among heart failure patients was associated with a nearly 4 times increased risk of death, 68% increased risk of hospitalization, and 57% increased risk of emergency department visit". What could be more isolating than not being able to see clearly and not being able to hear?? Poor dental health contributes to poor overall health, and to diseases such as cardiovascular disease which can cause heart attack or stroke. Untreated dental pain can affect a person's ability to eat and may cause malnutrition. Quality of life and health are interdependent.

Depends on which is the better plan. We dumped pur crappy employer plan and signed up for Medicare and Supplement as soon as we could! The employer plan cost almost as much, but had a $5,000.00 deductible! No thank you! Medicare was much better.

If cost is an issue just do HDG. No yearly plan changes (just your part D), networks, or pre-approvals.

What does maximum out of pocket limit means?

The advantage plans are taking the healthy folks and their Medicare money from the government. The coverage is poor for serious illness and the advantage plans can refuse your treatment recommended by your doctor. Traditional Medicare has the less healthy people and the coverage is great for serious illness. The same companies that offer Medicare Advantage plans also offer medigap plans and pay more out foe medigap and have no say over what they have to cover, with Traditional Medicare. The insurance pool is large and growing for the advantage plans and it has a cheap entry cost but you pay much more should you get very ill. And the company can deny treatment. And the company gets money from Medicare. So the only advantage to the Advantage plans is to the insurance company. Traditional Medicare has a shrinking pool and a less healthy pool. This is why we need Medicare Insurance and get rid of the Advantage p!ans. Companies have cleverly enticed the most healthy away from Traditional Medicare and have passed their pockets. When a person gets seriously ill on an Advantage Plan (when we get older we will get seriously ill almost guaranteed) then we will pay more sometimes a lot more.

So, what if you were new to Medicare in January of this year and selected a Medigap plan. You're still within the 6 month window until July 1. Can you select another Medigap plan with no underwriting if you do it before 1 July?

If you choose an Advantage plan when you first turn 65, can you still invoke the 1 year trial right? You stated that that you would have to go back to the supplement plan you left to invoke this rule. If someone never had a supplement from the get go, what supplemental insurance company could you go back to?

I used to work with a County agency then a regional state aging agency in my younger years in the late 1990s. Stephanie this is the most clear and concise teaching I've ever heard on explaining the different supplemental options with medicare supplemental plans. If a procedure isnt covered by Medicare, does my medigap insurance cover it after the deductible?

BCBS is getting out of the Advantage plan market in Kansas City. From what I read, Missouri has a guarantee issue right in that case, but how can you be sure if you went for a supplemental plan, cost isnt still being based on your health?

I’m interested in how much plan G rates are going up (in dollars, not percentages) compared to the high deductible G plans.

I am so lost on what I need to do about supplemental insurance. Is there a time limit before it's too late to get a policy? I got on Medicare at the beginning of May but still don't have a supplement plan or a part d plan. I have been too confused to act.

This is my personal and practical experience. MY wife and I were healthy when we reached 65. By accident we chose AARP United health supplement plan G. Suddenly, my wife was diagnosed with kidney cancer, needed back surgery, need tons of tests. I can’t count how many tests , exams and doctors’ visits. The more important than money is “referrals” when you have supplements plan we discovered that we do not need “referrals” which could have hold our doctor’s visits and exams and we could have been under the mercy of non-doctor who would decide if my wife should see specialist or not. Besides this important element we paid $0 for all these visits and exam. We found out that insurance agents usually convince you to choose the advantage plan because they would get big commission. Do not do it. With the advantage plan you will not pay monthly payment however you will pay tons if you get sick and you have to pay co- payment for doctor , hospital test. In our age as we get older we will need to use the insurance. They - agents- will say advantage plan will get you free Gem membership 😂😂 no thanks i need free doctor and hospital choice more than free Gem. We pay monthly $160 each monthly , however, we could have pay more than 10 time this payment under the advantage on each visit and each test.Remember them agents may convince you with the advantage plan because they will make more commission on the advantage than on the supplemental planThis our personal and actual experience

WOW !! I just turned 65 and I signed up for a Medicare advantage plan with RX, but holy moly they made you pay co-pays, therapy co charges, uugghh. Luckily, I'm within the window to change plans without being penalized. So I found the Medicare plan G, from BCBS and I think this is just right for me. What a shameful medical insurance system the U.S. has that takes advantage of older people. Elder abuse in another form.

My PCP for over 30 years informed me recently that while he does accept Part B, he can only accept an Advantage Plan - not Medigap. His office is still primarily paper driven and they don’t have the means to submit the charges for Medigap. 😳

I’m in CT with a high deductible plan F CIGNA medigap and Part D. Can I, and my spouse, switch to another provider? As you know CIGNA had sold its Medicare book to be effective Q1 of 2025.

The problem with advantage plans is the treatments for cancer is very limited. You will not be allowed to go the the best cancer treatment facilities. Many independent brokers say you should get a cancer and hospital indemnity plan if you pick advantage. also the for profit private insurance companies that have advantage plans are starting to use AI in their denial process for healthcare.

This is much bigger than a rate increase. People in the US overall have preventable illness. We live in a processed foodland of convenience. Pay a little more for quality food and look at preventative meaures. We are so far behind. Being a nurse or 29 years I have seen a lot. Much of it is also rooted in trauma. Allopathic medicine is what keeps us sick. We need more holistic practices and providers.

Healthcare in the USA is like the tax laws -- windy/complicated/no preventive coverages/costly/, etc. Vision and dental "insurances" are cheap, as they are not insurances but rather a coffer that you pay into for some benefits.

I can switch from Advantage plan to Plan G every year without medical underwriting. We have "open enrollment" every fall for Medicare plans. I just have figure out which plan suits me best and find medical insurance for my wife, who is still under the of age 60.
